Yes, Bad Credit Repair! Good Credit Repair just didn’t make any sense!

With tax season over, a lot of people are focusing on fixing their bad credit. How you got to this point of bad credit is not a mystery. With ever increasing gas prices, rents and groceries, it’s no wonder more and more of us are turning to credit cards just to make ends meet. We don’t really think that $20 in gas or $40 in groceries on credit is going to hurt us. Remember, we promised ourselves to make an immediate payment on that credit card with our next paycheck. Yeah Right!

I’ve personally had to cut down on my Starbucks trips, and I’m freezing my ‘arse’ off every weekend washing my own car. I’m not here to push a lifestyle change on you, but sometimes getting to the basics can be enlightening. I dare you to keep tabs on on all the little extravagances you allow yourself every month. Whether it be a pedicure or a Frappucinno, when you add that to last months credit card bills it begins to add up. And I believe for most of us, it’s how we get behind in our payment and slowly mess up our credit. I’m guessing that your credit problems didn’t happen overnight, it happened over some period of time. Maybe months or possibly years.

Ok, I digress. This post wasn’t suppose to be some wake up call on how to spend your money wisely, it is supposed to be about repairing your credit. I guess the point is you will never fix your bad credit until you address the root problem.

Speaking of the root problem, fixing your bad credit requires a few first steps. Nothing good ever comes easy, right? It’s difficult to fix something if you don’t know what’s wrong or how bad off it is. Fixing your bad credit is no different. You will need to know what is on your credit reports and what your credit scores are from all 3 credit bureaus. If you have read my other articles, you have heard me say this a million times. But it’s still true! And what also it still true is that MyFico is the only place to go and get all these things in one nice package. A 3 bureau credit report and all 3 FICO scores. This will cost around fifty bucks, but seriously how can you fix your credit without knowing this information?

Next, you will need to read through all four major sections of your credit reports and look for anything that is blatantly wrong. The wrong credit trade lines and other peoples misfortunes can show up on your credit report. It happens all the time. Contact the credit bureau(s) that is reporting this mis-information and have them remove it. It should take about 30 days.

The next thing to do is begin building some new credit history that will improve your credit score. Hey maybe it’s not so bad to buy groceries after all, if done right!

If any of your credit lines have gone to a collection agency, then stop now and read my article on “Pay for Deletes“. This will give you the tools you need to work with the collection agency to have those bad trade lines removed completely from your credit report. This can do wonders for improving your credit score.
